REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Dentist reports directly to the Dental Supervisor for all dental responsibilities associated with direct patient care, the Dental Supervisor, who reports to the Director of Outpatient Clinics, for daily operational performance.

 POSITION SUMMARY: The Dentist conducts a program of general practice dental care with responsibility for examination, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric and adult patients, emphasizing preventive care and instruction in dental hygiene. Provides dental treatment and advice to patients as may be indicated. The dentist will particularly serve in this role as a family dentist and will see patients in all age groups and serve as a consultant in dentistry to other health professions. This position would be part time, 2 10-hour days per week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
  • Performs dental operations and treats oral diseases; refers cases, when appropriate; confers with physicians regarding medical/dental problems.
  • Educates patients and parents in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
  • Attends staff conferences/meetings.
  • Keeps clinical and other records regarding services provided, supplies and materials used.
  • Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
  • Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
  • Assists in the coordination and integration of the organization’s dental programs and services with other organization programs and services for the welfare of the company’s patients.
  • Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.

  • The following education or combination of education and experience are required for the position:
  • Must be currently licensed in the State of California.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibits genuine interest in and appreciation of adults in later years of life.
  • Must demonstrate a maturity level that enables him/her to perform the job in a professional and organized manner.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

The following education or combination of education and experience are required for the position:

  • DDS or DMD degree from accredited U.S. Dental school
  • Current licensure in the state of California
  • Valid DEA license
  • Current CPR/AED certification
