Job Description

Eastern Plumas Health Care is a small, non-profit, critical access hospital district, providing comprehensive medical services to Plumas County since 1971. We operate a 9 bed acute care hospital at our main Portola campus, which includes a 24-hour, physician staffed, emergency room and ambulance service. In addition, four primary care medical clinics and a dental clinic offer residents a full spectrum of health care services in the Graeagle, Loyalton, and Portola communities. There are also hospital-based Skilled Nursing Facilities in Portola and Loyalton. 

We are actively seeking a full-time Licensed Vocational Nurse.

$32 -$38/hr DOE

Position Requirements Include:  

  • Current CA LVN license,
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS courses (or completion of one of these courses within 6 mos. of hire)
  • A minimum of 1-year LVN experience is preferred.

The position responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for patient flow with the assistance of other staff members. Greet patients and escort them from the waiting rooms to the examination rooms.
  • Triages patients and telephone messages for the provider.
  • Identifies and documents patient vital signs, chief complaints, notes allergies, tobacco and alcohol use, last menstrual cycle and additional monitors as indicated by visit purpose.
  • Assists providers with procedures.
  • Provides necessary emotional and technical support for patients during procedures and informs patients of what is expected of them and what to anticipate.
  • Performs lab draws and obtains specimens for testing at the request of the provider.
  • Administers immunizations, vaccines and other stock medications for injection as ordered by the provider (e.g., Hep. B, B12, Hormones).
  • Performs evaluation testing i.e.: visual acuity testing, Ishihara color testing, audiometry and tympanometry.
  • In cooperation with the registration clerk, arranges follow up and consultation appointments.
  • Within the scope of practice, answers telephone inquiries regarding medical issues related to the assigned provider and their patients. Documents relevant information in the medical record.
  • Works with registration clerk for patient recalls on Pap tests, mammograms, CHDP examinations and other cyclical visits.
  • Regularly stocks and cleans equipment, in examination, procedure, and medication rooms.
  • Monitors clinical supply stock levels and with approval, orders replacement stock.
  • Receives supplies and restocks shelves.
  • Evaluates appointment schedule and patient chart, one or two days in advance of appointment to determine appropriateness of appointment, and availability of necessary test results and documents.
  • Updates the registration clerk regarding changes to the providers' schedule, or possible meetings.
  • Arranges for patient follow-up appointments and referrals in compliance with the medication refill policy.
  • Monitors and orders vaccines, immunizations, injectables and stock medications in accordance with clinic policy and procedures.
  • Maintains a list of stock drugs, vaccines, immunizations, and injectables. Maintains inventory stocking routines as set by clinic policy and procedures.
  • Monthly, monitors exam, procedure and medication rooms for outdated stock.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and training on CHDP and Vaccines for Children programs.
  • Maintains contact with all providers to assure patient and provider needs are being met and that needed equipment and supplies are ordered.
  • Maintains files on QA monitors for equipment and patient reports, i.e. temperature logs and PAP results.
  • Attend Nurses Training Meetings, Staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
