Job Description


Eastern Plumas Health Care is currently recruiting a Chief Nursing Officer. The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing the operations of the following departments: Acute, Med. Surg., Endoscopy, Outpatient Procedures, Emergency Department, and two Skilled Nursing Facilities. The DON directs, administers and coordinates the activities of the acute hospital in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Governing Body by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. The CNO is an active member of the Executive Team which develops the strategic plan for the organization.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
? Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the subordinate
units/departments.
? Establishes operating policies consistent with the Chief Executive Officer's direction and ensures their
execution.
? Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined
and understood.
? Create and maintain an environment of collaboration and cooperation among all hospital departments.
? Create and maintain positive employee morale within all areas and departments of responsibility.
? Directs and supports performance improvement activities for the facility.
? Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state
and federal regulations, and laws governing healthcare operations.
? Monitors facility performance of goals and standards of patient care.
? Responsible for interviewing, hiring, assigning and directing work, counseling, appraising performance,
rewarding and disciplining personnel in concert with Human Resources.
? Maintains effective communication with the medical staff; attends medical staff committee meetings
including the Medical Executive Committee.
? Ability to effectively present written and verbal information to top management, medical staff, public
groups and Governing Body
? Responsible for guiding and directing management within areas of responsibility in the development and
promotion of new and existing hospital services
? Ability to direct the preparation of and implementation of short term and long range plans and budgets
based on overall hospital goals and growth objectives
? Establishes policies to ensure management development and to provide for capable management
succession.
? Responsible for investigating all patient complaints
? Maintains patient and organizational confidentiality at all times.
? Knowledge of basic components of risk management, including risk investigation, reporting, and claims
management.
? Ability to perform medical record review for the purpose of identification of real or potential risk and
the monitoring of documentation practices.
? Advises hospital staff, medical staff and/or committees regarding real or potential liability situations.
? Advises clinical staff regarding patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is
followed.
? Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
? Consults other departments as appropriate to provide or to collaborate in patient care and performance
improvement activities.
? Maintains knowledge related to performance improvement activities throughout the facility.
? Knowledge of appropriate and current documentation practices related to the risk management arena.
? Will be responsible for sharing Nursing Administrative Call shifts throughout the month. May be assigned
up to two weekends per month of on-call to relieve nursing staff or emergent and disaster situations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education Requirements:
? Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Masters Degree preferred.
? Current RN licensure in the State of California
? A minimum of 5 years nursing leadership experience
? A minimum of 3 years of direct patient care experience in acute and emergency nursing
? Must maintain RN license at all times
? Must maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications at all times

Professional Requirements:
? Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
? Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
? Completes annual education requirements.
? Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy; CMS, Title 22 and other
California regulatory requirements
? Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPPA compliance at all times.
? Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated
time.
? Wears identification while on duty.
? Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
? Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
? Attends executive team meetings regularly.
