Plumas County really is a place outside the ordinary offering ample recreational activities for every season. There’s something for everyone to enjoy doing outside at nearby parks, including many local golf courses, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, off road cycling, skiing, and snowmobiling, etc.

As part of Plumas National Forest, you can visit Lakes Basin Recreation area which was formed by glaciers and has breathtaking character with beautiful mountain scenery. The Plumas Eureka State Park is a very popular campground that offers a historic glimpse of the gold rush era. The fun doesn’t stop there, within an hour’s distance is world-class skilling of Truckee-Lake Tahoe with nothing but majestic views and a marvelous mountain town.

You can make a quick trip to the well known “Biggest Little City in the World”, Reno, Nevada, only 50 miles from Portola. Reno is the largest city in Northern Nevada and is nestled on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains offering unlimited indoor and outdoor recreational activities, international airport, shopping, entertainment, a top university, and more. Enjoy the nice weather because it isn't going away!

Without looking back, cruise down Interstate 80 to central valley and San Francisco Bay. San Francisco is undeniably one of the world’s greatest cities and has nightlife and trendy cuisine that stretches into diverse cities beyond the bay.
